Honoring the Educators Who Built Our Public Schools

Thank you to the Douglas County Federation of Retirees for inviting me to be the keynote speaker at your gathering!

I truly enjoyed spending time with retired Douglas County educators and talking about protecting retirement security and the future of public education.

You spent your careers educating our children and building the public schools our community depends on. Retirement security isn’t just a number on a spreadsheet—it’s a promise to people who devoted their careers to public service.

Having served on the Douglas County School Board and now serving as Secretary of the South Metro Volunteer Firefighter Pension Board of Trustees, I understand how important it is to protect earned benefits, keep PERA financially strong, address rising health-care and living costs, and make sure today’s educators can someday retire with dignity and security.

Thank you to our retired teachers and education professionals for the students you taught, the lives you changed, and your continued advocacy for strong public schools.

Colorado should value our educators while they’re working and honor their service when they retire.
