🌫️ Denver Air Quality Alert: Limit Outdoor Activities Today

If the air looks hazy or smells smoky, you’re not imagining it.

Smoke from multiple wildfires, combined with elevated ozone levels, has significantly reduced air quality across the Front Range. Colorado is currently managing about half a dozen major active wildfires that have burned more than 161,000 acres. On Monday, Denver ranked as the most polluted major city in the U.S. in IQAir’s rankings.

On July 6, Denver’s AQI peaked at 129 (Code Orange). The forecast for July 7 remains “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” (AQI 101–150), and an Ozone Action Day Alert is in effect.

If you’re a child, older adult, pregnant, or have asthma, heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes, reduce prolonged outdoor activity.

Protect yourself:

• 🌬️ Limit time outdoors, especially in the afternoon.

• 🏃 Exercise indoors if possible.

• 🏠 Keep windows closed if smoke is noticeable.

• 😷 Consider wearing a well-fitted N95 mask if you must be outdoors for an extended period.

As your candidate for Colorado State Senate District 30, one of my priorities is working to improve Colorado’s air quality and reduce the wildfire risks that threaten our health, homes, economy, and quality of life. That means supporting responsible forest management, wildfire mitigation, clean air initiatives, and investments that make our communities more resilient.

Please keep Colorado’s firefighters, first responders, and the communities affected by these wildfires in your thoughts. Stay safe, check on vulnerable neighbors, and monitor local air quality before heading outside.
